I’m am starting my mobility work and tried the Couch Stretch for the first time today and had a wierd thing happen. I was on level one position, and when I went to tighten my glute and drive my back leg down, my hamstring cramped like mad. I tried it on the other side and the same thing happened. Yesterday I did a C&J workout, and Squats so I’m not sure if I’m just tired but thought I would throw it out there. I definitely need more Hip mobility and I am 5 years out from lumbar micro-disectomy trying to regain my athleticism. Things have been going well since I started 4 month ago and I’m excited to start using TRS to increase my mobility.

      Hello Jason!

This happens to me as well, it’s quite common. It is most likely due to the fact that the hamstring is in a shortened position and you haven’t spent a lot of time there. Especially if you smoked them in a workout the day before its not surprising they cramped up. If I keep cramping I usually throw in some soft tissue work and do a little warmup beforehand to get some blood flow to the area. You could also try adjusting your position slightly or try a variation like a 1/2 kneeling banded hip flexor stretch so that hamstrings aren’t in such a shortened position.
