Being able to move without pain or restriction is essential for being in The Ready State. But it’s only one piece of the puzzle. And we wanted to have a more complete discussion of other key topics — like sleep, downregulation, nutrition, and more. That’s why, in 2019, we evolved from Mobility|WOD to become The Ready State.
Helping people with their mobility is still at the heart of what we do. And you can get daily personalized mobility drills with our Virtual Mobility Coach membership. But we also have a podcast and blog that take a wider look at what it takes to get — and stay — in The Ready State.
We define “mobility” based on two components. First, you should be able to put your body into any pose or shape that is normal for a human being. In other words, you should have access to the full range of motion for the human body. But having access is not enough. The second aspect of mobility is that you need to actually be able to achieve those positions in real life. In other words, you need to have to motor control skills to actualize your complete range of motion.
The bottom line is that — like almost every sport or activity — working on your mobility requires equipment to be most effective. Yes, there are some mobilizations that do not require gear.
