Daily Mobility Exercises by Dr. Kelly Starrett › Forums › Back › Herniated Disk issue
Possible herniated disk with noticeable sciatica pain. This has been ongoing now for 4 weeks with no lower body work outs and I don’t want to sacrifice form due to low back pain. I have been doing the PT and while I understand that this takes time, I am going a little stir crazy with pullups and pushups. how long to these take to heal on average and do I have to wait until pain free to do squats/DL’s or can I just go super light weight?
I feel your pain, brother. I’ve been dealing w/ a bulged disc @ L5/S1 for 3.5 wks now. Some pretty intense nights and mornings and the afternoons are not all that great either, also sciatica. My neuro-guy sites improvement and gave me till the 6 wk mark to make a decision about surgery. Luckily he is not a trigger happy sort of surgeon but did suggest an epidermal of cortisone. I will be getting that performed tomorrow (Wed) at 0800. Hopefully the inflammation will subside and the pain will ease and I can do some sort of PT to rehab it.
I appreciate the perspective either way. My levels seem very minor comparatively. Really haven’t needed any meds past the week 1 stage and I find that sleeping on floor helps. Hope that cortisone is all you need cause surgery seems like hell to rehab through. Best of luck.
