I’m a pretty active 34 yr old male whose been experiencing knee pain for the past year. Finally got Dr. to take it seriously and found out I have something called a bipartite patella and it’s all sorts of inflamed along the synchrodidosis (sp?). In a nutshell my kneecap never fused which normally isn’t a major deal most people who have it dont even know unless it gets aggravated or injured and then it essentially acts like a stress fracture and can lead to knee instability and pain or good ol’ bambi legs as I like to call it. I drew the genetic lottery on this one and have it in both knees.

Dr recommendation was basically to shut it down for 3-6 months. This news is soul-crushing to me, I love spartan races, running, crossfit etc. I’m sure that poor mobility and mechanics are at least partially to blame and would love to focus on my overall mobility during this mandated downtime. Any suggestions that arent going to jack me up more?

Dr said no running, no high impact and no knee flexion based activities.

Get a specialists opinion or a second opinion, unless you fix the underlying problem you will have the same problems when you start running Again

Getting a second opinion may give you more direction.
Were you given PT for this situation?
Were you given any direction on what you can do?
Working with mobility may feed slack to the area which can help.
Do you know what is causing the inflammation?

This will be an ongoing situation.
Daily maiontenance will be key to keeping it in the best possible place.
Have you looked at the front of the knee pain section of the virtual mobility coach?
This is one place to start.
There are many running focused if you search the archive
      A couple to start with:
Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 – Improve Your Running (Quad Smash)
Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018 – Running Recovery | Calf Smash
Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 – Calf & Shin Running Recovery

Having a coach take a look at your technique and video taping may be helpful.
