Movement is key.
Active recovery. Movement of the surrounding areas will have muscle contractions to clear the area. The same muscle contraction that takes cells waste etc. from the area also brings in oxygenated, nutrient rich blood which is exactly what your muscles and tissue need to recover.
the doctors, it seems to be a pretty simple procedure as the spur is
located in a “easily accessible” place. They do not need to distract the
ankle to remove it, there is no damage to the cartilage or tendons, and there
are no floating bodies in the joint area.
I am also working as a professinal dancer, so I would say that my current physical condition is pretty good.
As I am trying to understand the mechanisms of this process to be able to recover better, I wonder what the main concerns are during the recovery period, and what is it exactly that one is trying to avoid.
As i understand it from the ibuprofen and ice loving doctors (that
seems to be the only kind of doctors here in Belgium), the congestion of
the area post surgery is the main issue.
The main task seems to be to deal with swelling and the obvious process
of healing the wound form the procedure. Are there any other aspects
that you could think of that need to be taken in consideration in order not to
screw up the rehabilitation process?
Proper form when doing rehab as well as every
day movements, no sitting, attention to mobility and overall tissue health,
not being and idiot and pushing through pain and a careful attention to a hydration and clean, anti
inflammatory diet is of course allready prioritized.
Any thoughts about the subject would be greatly appreciated.
All the best
Erik
